Welcome Lion Families!

We are so excited to be getting a new friend in our classroom! We welcome you and your child to a fun and exciting school year! Our goal for your child during their time with us is to feel safe, have fun, and gain important pre-academic skills to give them a solid foundation for their academic and social future.

In the Lion Room, we hope to make your child’s transition as smooth as possible and help them adjust to his/her new learning environment. Moving from the 2/3’s classroom can be a big jump both academically and socially for your child. You will notice as the weeks go by we step the curriculum up gradually. The first few weeks will be spent building a community among the students and teachers.

At this age the most powerful source of learning is through your child’s own construction. Children learn by doing, watching, sharing their thoughts, and by interacting with each other. Throughout the day your student will be engaging in learning centers, whole and small group instruction, and making choices for their learning. We teach many of these skills through our developmentally appropriate curriculum, Let’s Play Learn, PATHS and Handwriting Without Tears. We will also be learning a variety of math skills. In our class we believe students should feel a sense of safety; that they feel loved, cared for and supported. These connections among both teachers and students are vital and will help your child grow developmentally.
